The mom song

I love the song (posted below) about what mom's say because it's so true. My mom said some of those things to us kids and lately I have found myself saying those same words! Logan was letting the dog outside and he was just standing there with the door open so I said, "Logan! Close the door!" He says "OK" and then I mutter to myself "were you born in a barn?"or "We are not heating the outside!" -Gasp! I've also found myself saying "because I said so" "leave your sister/brother alone"and many others. So mother, I DID listen to you -- I guess I needed to know what to say to my children!

Best tree ever!!

Every year our little family goes out and gets a real Christmas tree. We did this every year when I was growing up and it is one of my favorite memories. Watching my dad look over EVERY tree in the lot making sure the tree didn't have gaps in it or it wasn't slanted on one side. (I have no clue where I get my picky nature from!) We would bring it home and my dad would sit by the fireplace and saw the bottom of the tree off so the water could get in better, then we would put it in the stand and the next day we would put on the lights and ornaments. Bringing the Christmas boxes up from downstairs was so exciting! Us girls would fight who got to wear the tree skirt, as a skirt, up the stairs. We would then decorate the tree and listen to the Chipmunks Christmas record. We get our trees from Home Depot and in the past they have all been really nice looking but this year...WOW! It's tall and thick and wide and just beautiful! The pictures don't do it justice...

Dancing king and queen

Some videos of the kids dancing, we can usually get Logan to dance no problem but Brooklyn is so stubborn and usually won't do it. Cory caught her and Logan dancing with his cell phone so the video is pretty blurry...sorry!

Holiday who- b what- e?

We went to the Boise holiday parade on Saturday. It was really fun....and cold! It started to rain for a few minutes, but I'd rather have that instead of snow! But the kids loved it and that made it all worth it!
Way cute float!

Cory didn't want to put lights up on the house, but we can see who won that agruement! Haha! Sorry I'm a brat! :)

Popcorn popping on our Christmas tree

I thought it would be fun to string some popcorn and put it on our tree. (Of course I took photos!) Cory keeps calling my tree a "garbage tree" because of the popcorn and the cardboard box stars I'm putting on it, but I know the tree is going to be beautiful! Just you wait Cory Omanson, just you wait!

Stars

I get Good housekeeping magazine and in it were some cute crafty ideas for Christmas! They had some star ornaments and so I decided to make some because they are WAY cute! Here they are:

Here are things you need, ribbon, twine, sheet music (you can print some free from the internet) and cardboard in the shape of a star. On the card board, you cut it into a star and then pull on side of it off so you can see the "ridges". Here is the finished product.

These would be a cute thing to give to primary kids if you print off the song "I am a child of God" because that was the theme for this year. Cute huh?!

Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies

I found this recipe online and thought it looked good and was waiting until Christmas time when I do my mass baking to try it out. However we got invited to our friends house for dinner tonight and I was asked to bring dessert...perfect! It was easier than I thought it would be (with kids running in and out "mom I want a taste!!" "I wanna help" "Cookies, yay!" toys under my feet, stepping on the dog...) although, I did have to fight with my evil nemesis...

I always forget that after I put powdered sugar in my mixer, I need to turn it on slowly but I just whip the mixer up to medium and POOF! It's snowing inside my house. Festive, yes, pain to clean up though. Anyways, these cookies are way yummy and it's hard not to eat the frosting while filling the cookies! :)

Halloween!

"How do you do? Would you like to shake hands with thing one and thing two?"

"Have no fear," Said the Cat in the Hat. "These things are good things." And he gave them a pat. "They are tame. Oh, so tame!"--Dr. Seuss.

I really admire people who come up with such creative ideas for thier costumes, so I decided to give it a shot instead of spending 20-30 bucks on each costume (that they would wear for a few hours for one night). The kids didn't like getting thier hair colored, so I got as much as I could in their hair (not much). We had fun with it though and people kept asking me if they were twins....ummmm, no.

oompa loompa

We went to the outlet mall this past week and got the kids "footie" jammies from Carters. They are so cute! Cory called them oompa loompa jammies and so now at bed time the kids say that they want thier oompa loompa jammies on! Logan picked out a firetruck one and Brooklyn picked out a coca-dot (polka-dot) one. Cory is so jealous, he wants a pair.

Pumpkin Patch

On Friday we went out to a local farm that has a huge pumpkin patch. The kids went through a hay maze and we all took a hay ride. The hay ride stopped at different times to let you on or off when you saw a patch you wanted to look for pumpkins in. It also stopped at the corn maze and at a petting zoo that had horses, a camel, a zebra, goats and donkeys. We had a lot of fun looking for the "perfect pumpkin" and then taking them home to carve them and paint them. I can't wait till next year when we will go again!

One Year Already!

It was last year at this time when I pulled Cory out of our apartment and told him that we were just going to "look" at houses. I had been watching a builder in our area since we first moved to Boise (in 06). I was watching and waiting for his home prices to drop. When I found out that he was putting half of his inventory on sale for just one weekend, I had to go look, just to see if anything was in our price range...I wasn't counting on it. We left the house at 9am on Saturday. We went to south Boise, Kuna (WAY south of meridian) and northern Nampa (south nampa looks scary..no offense to anyone who lives there). We decided to stop at the sales center in Meridian not thinking that we would find anything because Meridian is one of the fastest growing cities in the state and prices are fairly high. We saw the list of homes for sale and saw a few homes in one neighborhood that were in our price range. We couldn't drive over fast enough! We walked through one of the 4 bedrooms and were really impressed and like the floor plan, then we went across the street to the 3 bedrooms and didn't like that one at all. We then went through the house next door to the first one we had gone into (same floor plan) only with white appliances instead of black. I loved that house! We went back to the sales center "just to see what kind of a payment we could get" after running all over the valley we were driving to our apartment at 7 at night with a month left before we would sign on our first home. I love my home, it's not this huge monster of a house but it fits our
family with room to spare, and makes a nice starter home.
I can't believe that it's been a year since we first stepped
through that front door. We've made great memories this
year and I can't wait for more! The picture at the top is when
we bought it and this one to the right was taken the first week
in Oct.

Finally Here!

Logan and Brooklyn's glasses are finally here!!

I had a heck of a time trying to figure out when the glasses were coming. I have a few friends who have ordered from this website that sells really cheap glasses and have had no problems. I ordered a pair for Logan and Brooklyn on August 30. They came today, the 14th of October!! I was told it would take 2 weeks then an extra 3-5 days from the x-tra strength prescription (poor Logan is blind as a bat! I'm not joking either!). On the 18th of September I was told that the lenses would ship from China to California the week of the 21st and then the week of the 28th, they would be shipped to me. So the week of the 28th comes and I don't have any glasses. So I talk to them again and they said that the lenses wouldn't leave China until the 5th of October and then be send out the next week. So that didn't sit well with me and I told them I wanted free shipping and a discount and so they gave me the shipping free and Logan's glasses for free. The glasses shipped to my house on the 5th and got here on the 14th. So it was kind of crazy dealing with the company and getting
the glasses here, but I am glad that we have them now!
When I put them on Logan he looks at me, puts both of his
hands on the side of my face and says "Mom, that's SO much better!" Poor kid can FINALLY see!! For Brooklyn this is the same old stuff to her! But for now she's happy and covered in candy corn! All I can say to my kids is I'm sorry! Cory has 20/20 vision so all the blindness comes from me and they can be either near sighted or far sighted because I am both (they are both far sighted)! So again my 2 children, I am sorry I am blind, because now you are too. :)

Heart Attack!

We have a security system in our house for when Cory is gone or we're out of town...that kind of thing. On all of our doors that lead outside we have a "box" looking thing. One sits on the door, the other on the molding so when the door is opened, the 'boxes" are separated and the system says "front door" or whatever door got opened. When the alarm is set and you come in, it says the door your coming in from and says disarm the system now and you have 90 sec. before the monitoring company calls you and you have to answer all these security question and give passwords and all that, if you don't answer the phone, they call the cops.

So anyways, Cory is out of town and I'm upstairs, it's about 11:30ish and all of the sudden I hear my alarm system say "back door, disarm system now" then it starts to beep. So I start to panic, something has happened to the back door, I'm alone -little 5'3 me and I doubt that I can fend off an attacker. I grab my cell phone to be ready to call 911 if I need to and grab something to try and defend myself with, I found a pen (haha, like I'm Jason Bourne and can stab someone with a pen!). So I'm creeping down the stairs flipping on lights and yelling hello!? I turn off the system because I don't see anyone and walk slowly to the back door. I see the "box" on the floor. The tape wasn't sticky and fell off the door thus causing a separation of the sensors and therefore the alarm going off. Then my phone rings, I jumped a mile in the air, and it was the monitoring company asking if everything was ok and if I need assistance. I'm glad my system works but wow, talk about a heart attack!

Little Clown

Logan is such a joy to have in our family! Not a day goes by that I'm not laughing at something he's done or some story he's told me. I know that he'll be the class clown in kindergarten next year, I just hope he learns something as well! He's so silly and just full of energy. He comes into my room now at 6am, I wish he would give me just an extra hour but I do love to talk to him while we both try to wake up!

My sweetie girl

Last night about 12 I was headed to bed and I looked in my door way and I saw a sippy cup. I investigated further and saw Brooklyn asleep in my door way. I picked her up and she woke up and said "mommy's bed." As I laid down she cuddled up close to me (she is NOT a cuddly kid) and said "knuckle me" which means rub her back. As I rubbed her back and she smiled at me I thought of how blessed I am to have such a sweet little girl. I love her deeply and our family would not be complete without her. I'm grateful for that "cuddle" moment so I could be reminded of how much she means to me.

Under Construction...

If things are strange and change from day to day, I'm sorry! I'm not really sure what I'm doing! :) But I was told by multiple people that I just HAD to have a blog, so we'll see if this works out.
